This two-day workshop highlighted results from the SFM Network project "The Challenge of Institutional Redesign: Tenure, Competitiveness and Sustainability." The workshop provided a forum for discussion about the future of the forest sector and the role that new institutional designs will play in shaping that future.

Objectives

Highlight research funded by the forest land tenure research project as well as other research focusing on institutional design in the forest sector.

Provide a forum to discuss some of the key issues that currently face the forest sector and explore whether, and which reforms in the tenure system can best facilitate transformation of the forest management system into a sustainable one.

Identify and explore possible consequences of alternative options for tenure reform.
