G - Water and Wetlands

Research Area Goals

Water and Wetlands research should advance the scientific basis for indicators and monitoring strategies related to water and wetland sustainability in managed forests. Indicators must be relevant to developing policy and management guidelines. The aim is to:

* Examine relationships between biophysical characteristics of water bodies and the different land-use patterns and disturbance regimes in the surrounding watersheds, and develop, use, and assess practical criteria and indicators to evaluate and monitor sustainability of aquatic ecosystems; and
* Model the impacts of forest management practices on aquatic ecosystems, and design optimal management strategies.
