Research excellence
As a result of more than a decade of knowledge building, the Sustainable Forest Management Network (SFMN) is internationally-recognized for delivering a world class interdisciplinary program that undertakes relevant university-based research. Through the SFM Network, diverse sectors are drawn into a partnership of funding, planning, and implementing sustainable forest management research. The SFM Network currently funds 31 projects that link over 180 pre-eminent researchers and graduate students across Canada with our government, industry, Aboriginal, and non-governmental organization (NGO) partners, and with other agencies and research organizations, in Canada and abroad.
What type of research does the SFM Network support?
- The development of strategies and tools to promote ecological, economic, and social sustainability;
- The development of better monitoring protocols and indicators of sustainability;
- Policy analysis to inform policy makers; and
- Networking and research to meet the needs, rights, and interests of Aboriginal and forestry-based communities.
